Biography

Henry was born 1883 in California, Missouri and passed away in 1949 at the age 0f 66 in Denver Colorado. Henry attended Business College in Sedalia, Mo. and then left Missouri for Salida Colorado to seek his life path - this is where he met and later married Jessie Lee Taliaferro in September 1910. Henry and Jessie had two daughters, Duretta Lee and Margaret Ann.

He was employed with the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad as a car-man and later a ticket-taker. Working as a car-man he was involved in an accident and was crushed between two train cars. He did however recover most of his health and physical abilities caused by the accident. Some time later he opened and operated a restaurant named the Green Parrot until economic conditions changed as a result of the Great Depression.

He and Jessie divorced after the children had reached adulthood. In his later years he traveled around for a time but then returned to Colorado working as a bookkeeper for a Denver Hotel until his passing. The stories recounted about him noted him as being a gentle, kind, intelligent and articulate man. He was called "Pappa Pretz" (due to his fondness of pretzels) by his two grandchildren Armyn Frankenbery and Reita Campion. He was much loved by both of his grandchildren.

Pappa Pretz

A loving, compassionate and very intelligent man. You always saw him in his suit and tie, even when he went fishing. The memories I have are of a father/grand father who really cared about his daughters and grandchildren. We lost him way too soon.
