MUIRHEAD, Findley: M.A. (Edin.); Original Editor of the Blue Guides; b. Glasgow, 1860; s. [son] of J.J. Muirhead, J.P., and Isabella Fullarton of Edinburgh; m. 1894, Mary Blanshard (d. 1926). e.d. [eldest daughter] of L. M. Clench, Barrister, St. Mary's, Ontario; one s. [son]. Educ.: Royal High School and University of Edinburgh; Leipzig University. Aboned the study of law for journalism and general literary work; joined the Staff of Baedeker's Handbooks, 1887, and until 1914 was Joint-Editor of the English volumes in that series; on the foundation of Muirhead Guide-Books, Ltd.,1915, became Organiser and Editor of the Blue Guides, and in 1918 published the first edition of the Blue Guide to London; since then has edited twenty other Blue Guide to London; since then has edited twenty other Blue Guides, viz., England, Belgium, Paris, Wales. North-Eastern France, Switzerland, the French Alps, Northern Italy, Normandy, Brittany, Southern Italy, Southern France, North-Western France, Scotland, Southern Spain, Northern Spain, Great Britain, Seventy Miles around London, Holland and the Rhine, and a shorter London; Kings without Crowns, 1887; translation of Zehden's Commercial Geography, 1889; retired from editorship, 1931.
