Mary was the daughter of Irish immigrants Hugh and Mary McCoy Mullen.[1] She was born in Wisconsin, but the family moved to Washington Lake Township, Sibley County, Minnesota within a year of her birth.[2][3].
She was living with her parents at age 23.[4] She married Patrick Breen when she was about 24.[5][6]. They resided in Carver County, Minnesota where their first daughter, also named Mary, was born.[7] The Breens second child, a son, was born in February 1886.[8] Two years later, the family dealt with the death of their oldest child, daughter Mary.[9]
The family moved to Minneapolis about 1888, where Patrick took a teaching position and the family lived at 2126 Willow Ave. North.[10] Two more children were born in Minneapolis.
Mary survived three of her four children. Her husband died in 1930 and Mary died four years late at age 79. She is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.[11]
