Biography

Gabriel Mundy was born about 1795 in West Cowes, Isle of Wight, England.

Gabriel Monday, Mariner, married the widow Isabella Berrey on 28 Apr 1816 in the Parish of Saint Andrew, Plymouth, Devon.[1]

Gabriel and Isabella had at least six children: Thomas Mundy (1821-), John Nicholas Mundy (1823-1898), Charlotte Mundy (1825-), Margaret Mary Powell Mundy (1827-), Isabella Mundy (1832-), and Sarah Ann (Mundy) Lyne (1834-).

Gabriel's wife Isabella passed away in 1834.

Gabriel Mundy married Ann Emblen on 18 May 1834 in Titchfield, Hampshire.[2]

Gabriel and Ann had six children: Ann Mundy (1836-), Robert Mundy (1837-), James Emblen Mundy (1838-), Samuel Mundy (1841-), Elizabeth Emblen (Mundy) (Corbon) Knight (1844-1915), and Gabriel Mundy (1850-1929).

In 1841 Gabril Munday (age 45-49, Seaman Royal Navy) lived at East Bexington in Puncknowle, Dorset with his wife Ann (35-39) and seven children: Thomas (20-24), Margrett (15-19), Seliann [Sarah Ann] (10), Ann (5), Robert (4), James (3), and Samuel (0).[3]

In 1851 Gabriel Mundy (age 56, Chief Boatman Coast Guard Station) lived in Puncknowle with his wife (38) and five children: Margaret (24), James (12), Samuel (10, Scholar), Elizabeth (6, Scholar), and Gabriel (0).[4]

In 1861 Gabriel Mundy (age 66, Fisherman) lived at Chapel Lane in Abbotsbury, Dorset with his wife Ann (48) and two sons: Samuel (20, Cooper) and Gabriel (10, Scholar).[5]

In 1871 Gabriel Mundy (age 76, Annuitant) lived in Abbotsbury with his wife Ann (58, Laundress), son Gabriel (20, Carpenter), married daughter Elizabeth E Corben (26, Seaman's Wife), widowed daughter Sarah A Lyne (30), and granddaughter Elizabeth E Lyne (2).[6]

In 1881 Gabriel Mundy (age 86, Coast Guard Pensioner (Navy)) lived at Roddon Row in Abbotsbury with his wife Ann (68, Laundress) and visitor Bessie Critchell (15, General Servant).[7]

Gabriel Mundy passed away in Dec 1885, aged 91 years. He was buried in Abbotsbury on 31 Dec 1885.[8] His death was registered in Weymouth, Dorset in the first quarter of 1886.[9]
