Note: Lucy Garlene Munson Benton, 94, of 160 Warren C. Coleman Blvd. N., Concord, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at First Assembly Living Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Widden and the Rev. Leonard Aycock officiating. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be at West Concord Cemetery, Concord. Mrs. Benton was born Feb. 14, 1913, in Stanly County, the daughter of the late William and Lizzie Munson. She was a homemaker and a member of Highland Baptist Church. Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Benton; a son; and three daughters. Survivors include her daughters, Rose Benton and husband, Brice, of Gold Hill, Doris (Benton) Ennis and husband, Gene, Jane (Benton) Whitley and husband, Bob, all of Concord; sons, Frank Jr. Benton and wife, Helen, of Kannapolis and Brice F. Benton and wife, Martha, of Concord; two brothers; four sisters; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. The family will meet at the home of a daughter, Jane Whitley, 1710 Old Charlotte Road, Concord. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Arrangements by Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord.
