Obituary

William “Bill” Munson, Sr., 96, retired Colfax Grange Supply manager, passed away Thursday evening, August 23, 2007 in Colfax. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 29th at 1:00 PM at the Colfax Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bishop Kim Mellor will be conducting. Graveside Services with military honors will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday from 9-4 at Bruning Funeral Home.

Bill was born September 4, 1910 in Seattle, WA. to Andreas and Julianne Munson. He grew up in the Seattle area and graduated from Highline High School in Burien. He attended Washington State College in Pullman where he graduated in 1933 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration Degree. Bill began working for the Colfax Grange Supply in the late 1930’s before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1943. While stationed at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City Bill met Vivian Beck who was working as a secretary there. The couple married August 23, 1944 in Hugo, Oklahoma. Bill served in Central Europe and the Philippines in the Army before being honorably discharged in 1945. Bill and Vivian returned to Colfax and Bill continued as manager of the Colfax Grange. He retired after more than 40 years of service in 1979.

He was a longtime member and Past Master of the Parvin Grange and was also a member of the VFW. An avid golfer, Bill was a long time member of the Colfax Golf & Country Club. He loved sports, especially supporting the Cougars. He was a member of the Colfax LDS Church.

He is survived by 4 children; Carole Newman of Queen Creek, AZ., Marilynn Pence of Cheney, WA., William Munson, Jr. of Spokane and Juliana Gibson of Mission Viejo, CA.; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, in 1996, a sister, Ellen, and 3 brothers, Carl, Magnus and Arthur.

The family suggests memorials to the Whitman Hospital Foundation.
