Obituary

REBECCA (MURDOCK) LUCAS - One by one we are passing away. How true the passage that reads "For ye know neither the day nor the hour wherin the son of God cometh." This passage of scripture it seems fits closely unto the case of the subject of this obituary.

Mrs. James Lucas, although for years she had poor health, this winter she had been unusually well for her, until about 3 weeks previous to her death, when she contracted a severe cold, which developed into bronchial pneumonia. Although everything that medical aid could do was done, it was of no avail. In the death of this grand and noble woman the world loses a striking example of love, kindness and true womanhood.

Her life was wholly devoted to her church and her family. Such a life as this carries with it a Christian realization that there is more joy in one minutes walk with God than years of wordly pleasure.

Rebecca Murdock, eldest daughter of Henry Murdock, who has long since gone to his reward, was born in Middlesex county, near Strathroy, 3 November 1853. On this farm she lived until the age of 15 years when the family moved to Brooke township on the same farm on which she died.

On the 6th December 1872 [4] , she was married to James Lucas, and moved to his farm on 15 sideroad. In 1882, James Lucas purchased the farm on which he still resides and on which his wife died. To this marriage three children were born, Nelin, who lives in Bad Axe Mich., Ada and Ivan, who reside with their father. At the time of Mrs. Lucas' death, 3 sisters and 1 brother, Mrs. John Cranston, Mrs. James Richardson and Mrs. Philo Richardson all of Ubly Mich., and William Murdock, of Bad Axe, and also Miss Susie Murdock (a niece) of Bad Axe, were at her bedside, besides her own entire family. ~Watford Guide Advocate, 08 Mar 1912
