Bertie Elibank Murray was born 10 May 1881, his birth being registered at Medway, Kent in the 2nd quarter of that year[1]. He was the son of Pulteney Henry Murray and Mary Leaycraft Ingham.
In the 1891 England Census, Bertie E Murray (aged 9 and a Scholar) was recorded living with his mother Mary L Murray (42) and his siblings Percy J A Murray 6), Catherine G Murray (5) and Gerald G Murray (2) at Belgrave Place, Salop Road, Oswestry Town, Oswestry, Shropshire. Also in the household was his widowed aunt Susan C Ross (44), his cousin Helena A Ross (18) and two household staff.
He fought in the Somaliland Campaign between 1908 and 1910.
His father Pulteney died on 15 November 1912 at age 62.
He fought in the First World War, serving with the 1st Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Bertie was mentioned in despatches five times and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916. He was entitled to the 1914 Star.
He retired from the military, with the rank of Colonel, late of the 1st Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.
On 30 June 1927 he married Agnes Letitia Evans[2]. They had no children.
He was Commander of the 158th (Royal Welch) Infantry Brigade (Territorial Army) between 1930 and 1933 and was commander of the 38th Divisonal School between 1939 and 1940.
In the 1939 England and Wales Register, B Elibank Murray (aged 58) was recorded living with his wife Agnes L Murray (56) at Sellarstrook, Ross and Whitechurch, Herefordshire, England. Also in the household were nine other individuals.

He was resident at 2 Claremont Lodge, Montpellier, Spa Road, Gloucestershire when he died on 14 September 1960 in a nursing home[3]. His Will was proved on 22 November 1960 at Gloucester to his widow Agnes Letitia Murray. Effects: £1643 11s. 2d.
