Biography

Florence Elizabeth Murray, daughter of Charles J. Murray and Florence Ann Richardson, was born on 28 October 1872 in Wadesboro, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[1] Her father died in 1876, when she was only four years old.^[2] She was enumerated in Livingston Parish during the 1880 Census, living with her widowed mother and her younger brother.^[3]

She married Gaston Raoul Kemp, son of Judge Simpson Kemp and Letitia Settoon, on 11 August 1889 in Livingston Parish.^[4] They had seven known children:

The family lived in Livingston Parish during the 1900-1910 censuses.^[5][6] Gaston died there in 1919.^[7] Florence was listed there on the 1920 census as widowed, with her son Percy and his bride.^[8]

Florence eventually moved to New Orleans. In 1930, she was living there at 1130 Carondelet, with her youngest son Alden remaining at home. He worked as a chauffer for an oil company.^[9] By 1940, Florence was living in Alden's household with his wife and daughter, at 4701 Baudin Street.^[10]

Florence died at age 74 on 21 January 1947 in New Orleans.^[11] She was buried at Carter's Cemetery in Springfield, Livingston Parish.^[12][1][13]
