This large family lived and farmed near Elamsville, Patrick Co., VA.]
1781 – The first definite record of our John Sneed shows his service in the American Revolution when he served in James Poteet's Company from the Henry County militia. They marched to the aid of General Nathaniel Green at the Battle of Guilford Court House in North Carolina, but the fighting was over by the time they got there and they were sent back home:[1] "Now follows the list of those with Colonel Penn who marched to the assistance Colonel Green at Guilford Court House on March 11,1781:Abraham Penn, Colonel, Commanding James Poteet's company - James Poteet, Commander: Peter Bays, Ninon Prater, Ben Hubbard, John Ratford, John Sneed, Joseph street, Stephen Watkins, Thomas Tinson, George Nevil, Peter Tittle, Charles Hibbert, Joseph Perregoy, Richard Dotson, William Elliot, John Mullins, Ambrose Mullins, Joseph Waldin, Acquilla Black."1782, Henry Co., VA - John was listed as a property owner:1782 Henry County, Virginia Personal Property Tax List:John Snead; one tithe (white male of working age); no slaves; two horses; thirteen cattle John and Nancy bought 200 acres that same year:23 Jul 1782,

1788 - John lost his commission as road surveyor:June session 1788, Franklin Co., VA court"Spencer James is appointed surveyor of the road from the county line to Peter Saunders in the place of John Sneed and the former hands to be his gang.
The will was proved at the Oct 1815 session of the Patrick County court, showing that he had died by that time. His son youngest son Samuel was married in Patrick Co., VA 15 Sep 1815, but it's hard to guess whether he would have married while his father was sick or waited until after he had died. The inventory of John's estate in December shows that either John or Nancy lent Samuel a considerable amount of (probably) furniture and tools with which to start married life."In the name of God, amen.
This fourth day Aug. in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred fifteen.I, John Sneed Senior of Patrick County being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make, constitute, and ordain this my last will and testament in order to dispose of such worldly goods and estate as God in mercy has given me.
14 May 1820, Patrick Co., VA - John Tuggle wrote his will. He named his wife Nancy and bequeathed her a horse. She, of course, still had the estate she inherited from John Sneed and didn't need John Tuggle's property, which went to his children:Will of John Tuggle, 1820[6]"In the name of God amen, I John Tuggle Senr of Patrick County being weak in body but of sound mind and memory and knowing the uncertainty of this mortal life do hereby make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament in manner and form following hereby revoking all and every former Will or Wills by me made. Impirimise I commit my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust from whence it came to be buried in a decent christian like manner, at the direction of my executers.Item, after my decease it is my desire that all my just debts be paid according to law and Justice.Item, after all my Just debts are paid it is my will and desire that my estate which it has pleased God to bless me with, both real and personal be equally divided between my ten children viz. Sally Jones, Mary Lee, Henry Tuggle, Elizabeth Bolling, Nancy Burnett, Frances Brammer, Lucy Brammer, James Tuggle, John Tuggle and Anne Sheeler except one sorrel horse which I got of Capt. Nancy may have moved in with her son John who had an older woman living in his household:
