Biography

Martin Nebel was born on about April 18, 1841^[1] in Switzerland.^[2] He married Barbara Stuckey on February 21, 1866 in Davis County, Iowa.^[3] Together they had 12 children:

Research Notes

Martin's tombstone lists "Apr 18, 1841" as his birthdate^[1], but his obituary states he died on March 21, 1893, aged "51 years, 11 months and 5 days",^[9] which would imply his birthday was April 16, not April 18. I have used the date on the tombstone absent any other evidence of his exact birthdate.

Unsourced Ancestry.com "hints" from family trees listed Martin's middle initial as "L" but there is no documentation for that.

Unsourced Ancestry.com "hints" from family trees listed Martin's birthplace as Allschwil, Basel-Country, Switzerland, but there is no documentation for that specific location. The 1870 U.S. Census lists Martin as born in France, and Allschwil is right on the border with France, which might support Allschwil as a birthplace.^[4]
