Biography

Benjamin Philip Neher was born in Hamburg, Germany, Sept 25,1837. At the age of 13 he came to America with his parents. They settled in Shenandoah Valley, Va. He moved to Wisconsin when he was 17 years old and later to Iowa. In 1885 he came to Atkinson, where he has lived until the date of his death. Jan 20,1917. Mr Neher has been bothered with ailments accompany old age, for about 3 years. The last illness was about 4 months during which time he suffered greatly of physical pain, but never at any time complained of his torture. He was 79 years 3 months and 25 days old.

On March 7,1868 he was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Anne Allbaugh. To this union were born 11 children, 4 boys and 7 girls, all of whom with his devoted wife, survive him. The children are: Mrs J Estes of Angela, Mont, Mrs J Olson of Wilbur, A S of Bonesteel, SD, Mrs J F Brimblecom of Atkinson, Mrs T Estes of Jackson, Wyo, Mrs R Randall of Vancouver, Wash. Mrs W R Tenborg of Emmet, F A of Atkinson, S E of Angela, Mont, W G of U S Navy, and Mrs J Baker of Lordsburg, NM, besides the children there are 27 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Deceased was a cabinet maker by trade and in many ways a genius at mechanics. In his departure the family will mourn a kind and indulgent father and husband and the community will miss a good neighbor.

The service was held in Methodist Church Monday, Jan 22 and all that was mortal was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery at Atkinson to await the call of the Master and Lord.
