Biography

John Newman, son of James Newman and Elizabeth Chalcraft was baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Chiddingfold.

In 1833, he married in the same church to Sarah Lambert. Five known children were born, William, John Jr, Keziah, Ellen and George.

The family settled at Longhurst, Chiddingfold where John worked as an Agricultural Labourer. In 1851 the family was resident in Langford Lodge in the village and by 1861 they had moved to Sandhole at Hambledon.

John Newman died in 1875 and was buried at St Peters on May 26, aged 76.
