Biography

Sarah Ellen Newman born in Virginia, probably Patrick County, in Nov 1835 (1900 Federal Census ). She was living with her parents Ralph and Mary "Polly" (Edwards) Newman in Dan River Settlement, Patrick County, Virginia in 1850, along with her siblings Joseph (23 yo) Elizabeth (11),John W, James M(6) and Mary(3 yo).

She married Edward Francis Robertson, son of Jno. and R. Robertson on 7 Jan 1858. They had three children, all of whom were living in 1900, according to Census: Gabriel, b.about 1864, Emmett b. Jan 1867, and Aubrey Sept 1877. In 1870, the Census also lists Green A. Robertson, 12 yo, "deceased" in the household, whose relationship to the couple is not clear. Sarah claimed to have have had just three children in 1900, when she was staying with her husband and son Emmett in West Virginia. Husband died before 1910, when widow Ellen still stayed with Emmett in Hamilton, Nicholas County, West Virginia.
