Biography

He was the eldest son of Richard Newton and Elizabeth (Unknown) Newton (abt.1620-bef.1701).

He wrote his will as Robert Newton, batchelor of Colsterworth, lincs. dated 20th April 1677 in which he ordains his natural mother Elizabeth Newton to be his full executrix and leaves her his house & land during her life and theretafter to his brother Richard Newton, paying all legacies unto: his sister "Jain"(Jane) Newton £30; Robert, John & Ann Christian, the children of William Christian deceased, £5 each when 21y; Mary, Elizabeth & Richard Pinder, the children of John Pinder of Colsterworth, £4 each when 21y; the poor of Colsterworth & Woolstorpe 20s; the rest & residue to his mother Elizabeth Newton. He was buried 17th July 1677 Colsterworth, Lincs.^[1]

• the reference to the children of William Christian, deceased, and those of John Pinder, are references to his nieces and nephews from his sister Mary Newton who first married William Christian, who died 1665, and then married John Pinder in 1668, Mary was buried 20th January 1681/2.
