This is the second son with second name of Webster - must have a significance to this family. LOOKING FOR THE CONNECTION.
A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE LAST NAME: THIS MAN WAS BORN WITH IT SPELLED NICOL not Nicoll or Nichol but some people in the family adopted those spellings.
NOTES fro Anne Burgess runs the Scottish Genealogy Site: This is not two couple with the same names marrying 8 days apart. It's the same couple having their banns called in two different parishes.
The church was interested in recording the fact that the intention to marry had been proclaimed and no objections had been offered. It wasn't necessarily interested in recording the actual marriage ceremony. If the bride and groom lived in different parishes the banns had to be proclaimed in both, so this generates two records of the same event. The dates may be the dates when the Session Clerk noted that the banns had been called, The spelling difference is not significant - the clerk wrote it down however he thought it should be written down, and even if the couple could read and write they probably never saw the entry in the parish register, and if they did the idea that there was a 'correct' spelling wouldn't have occurred to them. The original documents on SP will tell you whch parish the groom lived in, and which parish the bride lived in. They will probably also tell you which parish they were married in (usually the bride's) and you may even be lucky enough to get the actual date of the marriage ceremony. Anne
