Miss Niles Dies; Was Chief Nurse April 16, 1968, Syracuse Post Standard

Miss Blanche Niles, 91, of 115 Oxford St., former superintendent of nurses at Clifton Springs Sanitarium, died yesterday at the Hills of Home Rest Manor, Jamesville. A registered nurse, she was graduated from Clifton Springs Sanitarium in 1901. For five years she was employed by Dr. Martin Tinker of Ithaca. In 1910 she went to St. Anthony, Newfoundland, with Dr. Wilfred Grenfell of the Grenfell Mission[1] as a summer volunteer nurse. She went abroad in 1929, visiting many countries. Miss Niles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Syracuse and active in Rescue Mission work. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Albert A. Brown of Syracuse, Mrs. Charles Reeves of Jamesville and Mrs. Edward L. Andrus of Lake Worth, Fla. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Greenleaf Funeral Home, The Rev. George Earnshaw officiating. Burial will be in Georgetown. [2]

Learned last week from talking to Edith Benedict that Blanch (her aunt) spent time as a nurse working in Newfoundland. Hoping to flesh out this biography more.
