William was born around September 1800 in the Cathedral City of Ely, Isle of Ely, about 14 miles (23 km) north-northeast of the University City of Cambridge, in Cambridgeshire, England[1]. His parents were James (Norman) and Ruth (Hust), who married on the 8 November 1791 at the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, Church Lane, Haddenham, in the City of Ely, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England[2].
