Biography
Mary Emeline "Emma", daughter of Christian Nusbaum and Rhoda Lyda, was born in Elkhart County, Indiana on 22 Nov 1860.[1]
Mary Emeline Nusbaum married Henry Swarm in Elkhart, Indiana on 28 July 1877 after the marriage license was issued three days earlier.[2]
In 1880 and aged 19, Emeline was residing in Olive, Elkhart, Indiana. She is enumerated with husband Henry aged 23 as well as sons Albert aged 2 and William aged 8 months. Her father's birth place is listed as Germany, her mother's as Ohio.[3]
Mary Emeline died at Osceola, St. Joseph County, Indiana on 2 May 1941 at 10 pm after suffering from a 5-day infection of the scalp and face. She had survived a stroke in 1936. She had been living in Osceola for 2 years prior to her death. Son-in-law John Snyder was the informant. Mary Emeline was buried on 5 May 1941 at the Olive Cemetery in Elkhart County.[1][4] Her obituary was printed in The South Bend Tribune, South Bend, Indiana, on 03 May 1941, Sat • Page 9 [5]
Mrs. Mary E. Swarm : Mrs. Mary Emeline Swarm aged 80, of Osceola, this county, died at -11 p. m. Friday in her home after an illness of five years. She was born Nov. 22, 1860, in Elkhart county, Indiana, and came to Osceola 21 years ago. As Miss Mary Emeline Nusbaum she was married 64 years ago to Henry Swarm, who died Nov. 19, 1939. Surviving are three sons, Albert Swarm of Mishawaka; John Swarm, of Jones, Mich., and Louis Swarm, of Osceola, and two daughters, Mrs. John Snyder, of Osceola, and Mrs. Joye Gongwer, of Elkhart, Ind. Fourteen grand children and 14 great-grandchildren also survive. Friends may call at the residence from Sunday until 3 p. m. Monday, at which time services will be conducted in the residence by Rev. George Brunner, pastor of Osceola Methodist church. Burial will be in Olive cemetery, southeast of Osceola. Mrs. Swarm was a member of the Osceola Methodist church and the Ladies Aid society of the church.
