Biography

George Francis Nutt was born to James Nutt and Caroline Matilda Cosway in Barnstaple, Devon in 1826^[1].

George is recorded at Barnstaple with his parents (James 35 blacksmith, Caroline 40) and siblings (Sarah 13, Mary 10, Edward 6, and John 0) in the 1841 UK Census^[2].

He came to NSW as an 'Assisted Immigrant' with his parents and siblings on the 'Agincourt' in 1848^[3]. He was 21, single, a tin-plate worker, from Barnstaple, CofE, reads and writes.

George married Cornishwoman Mary Stephens Huthnance, daughter of John Huthnance and Ann Stephens, in 1850, in a CofE ceremony at St Phillips church in Sydney^[4].

They had children^[5]:

Mary died in 1869 and George married Ann Jane Jones (1847-1923) in 1871 and they had eight children.

George died in 1898^[6], his death registered at Redfern, NSW^[7]. He was buried in the Pioneers Memorial Park (Defunct) in Leichhardt, NSW^[8].
