Biography
John was born about 1523, estimated from marriage.
Marriage of John Ottes and Elizabeth Stansfield 30 September 1548 at Halifax, Yorkshire.[1][2]
John died in 1573 and was buried on 25 February 1572/1573 at Halifax, John Otes de Northowrum.[3]
Research Notes
Removing daughter Margaret Lydia Oates of Glastonbury. No baptism source, 250 miles away, common name, all John's records are in Halifax and he has children born in Halifax either side of Margaret in Glastonbury.
The parents attached here are unlikely to be correct. Middle names were not in use at this time and the names Leefe and Cannar would be virtually unknown in this area. As a couple, they would probably be unique, but there is a marriage of William Leefe Oates and Emily Cannar in Bradford, Yorkshire, in 1947.[4] William Leefe Oates died in 1972, exactly 400 years after the date given on Ancestry trees.[5]
