Ignace, his father, his children and others sign an 1881 petition requesting a reserve at LaBelle, Ottawa Co., Quebec.
Google translate:
Petition from Indians of the Rouge and North Nation Rivers to receive a reserve in the township of Labelle, Ottawa county.
"We, the Indians of the Red and Little-Nation Rivers, submit that the territory bordering the said rivers has been surveyed, that the population has become denser and as a result the animals of the forest which ensure our livelihood are slaughtered and hunted down and disappear gradually. We, the petitioners, are obliged to abandon our traditional trapping activities and provide for the the needs of our families by other means. We are very poor and without resources to buy government land. We submit humbly that it will please you to grant us and our families 2000 acres of land in Labelle County Township of Ottawa, or as it you will like to act, a location nearby if it proved impossible to have them. We have expressed it above, we are very poor, we have among our people big families. Farm tools, seeds, provisions would be of great help and much appreciated. We beg you to believe that we would be forever grateful."
