Biography

Ignace "Cabokijik" Odjick was born on February 26, 1842 at Lake of Two Mountains QC to Basile "Wabanibic" Odjick and Cecile "Jakohawison" Kahentiaks. He was Nipissing/Mohawk.^[1]

Ignace "Cabokijik" Odjick married Catherine "Tekakwitha" Karakohare on February 4, 1868 at Lake of Two Mountains QC.^[2]

Ignace, his father, his children and others sign an 1881 petition requesting a reserve at LaBelle, Ottawa Co., Quebec.

Ignace Odjick died on May 5, 1900 at Kitigan Zibi QC. He was buried on May 7, 1900 in the River Desert Anglican Church cemetery.^[3]

Notes

On his daughter Cecile's baptism at the Methodist Church in 1872, Ignace goes by the name Thanetorens, which appears to be his Iroquoian name. Cabokijik is his Algonquian name. Inias/Anias are variants of Ignace.
