Phillip Easterling Odom was born on 9 Sep 1831 in Marlboro, South Carolina, United States, son of Sion Odom Jr (1802 - 1854) and Elizabeth (Easterling) Odom (1803 - 1877).

Phillip (~27) married Mary B Wallace (~20) (1838 - 1861) in 1859 in Marlboro.

Their daughter was Mary Jane (Odom) Herndon (1859 - 1916).

Mary died either in childbirth or shortly after.

On April 1, 1863 he was conscripted into B Co "Pee Dee Rifles", 24th South Carolina Infantry, CSA. The 24 infantry saw action in the Vicksburg Campaign, Chickamauga Campaign and Atlanta Campaign followed by Hood's march north into Tenn and the battles of Franklin and Nashville. . According to company B muster roll he deserted on April 25, 1865, the day before the Army of the Tennessee surrendered to Sherman,

Phillip (~34) married Nancy Newton (~18) (1848 - 1923) in 1866 in Marlboro. Their children were:

Phillip died on 20 Dec 1910 in Saint Pauls aged 79. He is buried in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church Cemetery, St. Pauls, North Carolina.
