Allen was born in 1856. He was the son of John Olmsted and Elizabeth Allen.
Attended LeRoy Academic Institute; Williston Seminary; Cornell Univ class of 1879; specialist in newspaper advertising and manufacturer of proprietary articles. He was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, Cornell University Club in New York City, and the Saturn Club and Century Club in Buffalo. He resided in Buffalo, NY.
In 1895 introduced Allen's Foot-Ease, which by intrinsic merit and conservative management became known as a standard preparation throughout the country and abroad.
In 1911 he purchased and presented to the Board of Education of LeRoy, the historic LeRoy Mansion, home of the family for whom the town and village were named and where Caroline LeRoy was visited by Daniel Webster, afterwards her husband.
Allen died in 1942 and is buried near other family members in the Machpelah Cemetery, LeRoy, Genesee County, New York. [1]
