E. I. OOSTERHOUDT KILLED IN WRECK

Union Pacific passebger train No. 12, known as the Colorado Special, ran into the rear of No. 4, the Atlantic Express at 4 o'clock yesterday morning near Gothenburg, Nebraska, killing four persons and injuring 20 more, according to advices from Omaha, Nebraska. The dead include Edwin I. Oosterhoudt of Salamanca, a former resident of Olean and an employe of the Western New York & Pennsylvania traction company. Mr. Oosterhoudt left Salamanca a week ago last Monday to visit his brother Wallace Oosterhoudt at Sydney, Nebraska, and it is supposed that he had finished his visit and started for home as the point where the accident is reported to have occurred is about 125 miles east of Sydney. Members of Mr. Oosterhoudt's family have as yet received no details of the wreck, but have little doubt that the man reported to be killed is their relative. Mr. Oosterhoudt had up to about two years ago made Olean his home. At that time he moved to Salamanca and now lives between that village and Elkdale near the substation on the line of the Traction company by whom he was employed as a foreman. Mr. Oosterhoudt is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Hutchinson, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Clayton Howden. He also leaves two brothers and three sisters, Wallace Oosterhoudt of Sydney, Nebraska; Charles Oosterhoudt of Front street; Mrs. Amelia Bartlett of the Windfall, Mrs. J. L. VanDusen of Pleasant Valley and Mrs. H.A. Brooks of Pleasant Valley. He was 65 years of age and was widely known in the city where he was held in high respect by his acquaintances. He had been in the employ of the street car company for many years and was regarded by them as a thoroughly trustworthy and efficient workman.
