Biography

Eva Mae Orwig was born on April 1, 1897, in Big Spring, Seneca County, Ohio. She is the daughter of Victor Orestes Orwig and Clara Ellen Wenner. Eva was about five years of age when her family moved to Indiana. Her mother, Clara Ellen Wenner Orwig died September 28, 1905 in Pleasant Lake, Steuben Co, Indiana. Her father, Victor Orwig married second August 29, 1907, to Nellie Penland Parrott.

Eva married on the same day as her sister, Gertrude Lulu Orwig. Gertrude married Burt R. Kepler. Eva married on June 19, 1920 in Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Indiana to Carl Leslie Chadwick, son of Frederick Norton Chadwick and Elnora Shaver. Carl was born on April 20, 1898 or 1889 in Steuben Co, Indiana. Carl served in World War I.

Carl and Eva are parents of four children, Beth, Kenneth, Darrell, and Clarann. The first born, a daughter, Beth Ellen Chadwick was born June 11, 1921 in Auburn, De Kalb Co, Indiana. The second child, a son, Kenneth Carl Chadwick was born September 5, 1922 in Auburn, De Kalb Co, Indiana. The third child, a son, Darrell Bayne Chadwick was born May 9, 1924 in Auburn, DeKalb, Indiana.

By 1925, Carl and Eva removed to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Carl worked as a manager of a grocery store. The 1930 Census for Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana lists Carl L. Chadwick – head, aged 31; Eva M. Chadwick- wife, aged 33; Beth E. Chadwick – daughter, aged 8; Kenneth K. Chadwick – son, aged 7; Darrell B. Chadwick – son, aged 5; and Wendell D. Orwig – roomer, aged 20. Wendell D. Orwig is half-brother to Eva Orwig Chadwick.

The fourth child and youngest daughter, Clarann Nellnora Chadwick was born May 20, 1933 in Fort Wayne, Allen Co, Indiana. The 1940 Census for Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana lists Carl Chadwick – head, aged 41; Eva Chadwick- wife, aged 43; Beth Ellen Chadwick – daughter, aged 18; Kenneth Chadwick – son, aged 16; Darrell Chadwick – son, aged 15; and Clarann Chadwick – daughter, aged 6.

On January 25, 1944, Eva and Carl were living in Fort Wayne, Indiana when Eva's father, Victor O. Orwig died. By November 16, 1983, Carl and Eva were living in Pleasant Lake, Indiana. Eva was named a survivor in the obituary of her stepsister, Beatrice M. Parrott Green.

Carl died on May 23, 1987 in Bradley, Monterey County, California. Age at Death: 98.

Eva died on May 19, 1996 in Hemet, Riverside County, California. Age at Death: 99.

Eva and Carl are buried in King City Cemetery, King City, Monterey Co., CA.
