Edward G. Orwig. Edward G. Orwig died September 28th, 1894, after a lingering illness, aged 7 I years, 2 months and 20 days. He lived and died at the homestead where lie was born, on the farm in Lewis township.
From the " History of Susquehanna and Juniata Valleys, now before us, we learn that Edward G. Orwig was the eldest son of William and Lydia Orwig, and that he had in his possession the family bible containing the family record for a period of almost two hundred years. The record ante-dates their emigration to America. In 1743, Godfrey Orwig settled in what was then Berks county, New Schuylkill, and was the original proprietor of Orwigsburg, formerly the county seat, of Schuylkill county.
George Orwig the son of Godfrey, married Magdelene Gilbert and they, at the beginning of the present century, settled on their farm in Buffalo Valley. They raised a family of twelve children. William, the tenth child of George and Magdalene, was the father of Edward. Edward leaves to survive him a wife, one son, Nelson, and one daughter, Sarah, wife of Samuel Reed.
