DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
Osburn-826 and Osburn-323 appear to represent the same person because: Same person, He was probably born in Lee County Virginia where Edmund migrated from. The Tug Valley was crawling with Indians until after the war of 1812.
Looks like Osburn-767 too, altho that's currently set as a "rejected match." (One imagines the valley must have been crawling with white settlers as well?)
Osburn-767 and Osborne-305 appear to represent the same person because: Our last names have changed over time. Lea has info I don't have and vica versa. I checked out the archives and Joseph is a brother to Henry. They have the Same parents. John and Susan (Jackson) Osburn ( Osborne).
I've completed your merge request. I see we're going to have to merge our Susan's and a few other ancestor profiles along the way (lots of work ahead). There seems to be quite a few John Osborne's that we need to merge with (and others). A strange thing happened -- As I was merging our John 813 & 767, the older duplicate John (Osborne-305) was listed as an unmerged match beneath them -- I went ahead and adopted him to correct the LNAB, etc. -- After the merge was completed for 813 & 767, 305 somehow disappeared? I'm not sure what happened? I have no idea where Osborne-305 could have disappeared to as I only merged 813 & 767. Apparently after 813 was merged away, 305 merged away with it???
This is a little unnerving/upsetting as I intended to merge our 767 with 305 next -- because 305 was the lowest number/oldest profile and because merges always go in the direction of the lowest number/oldest profile. At any rate, it seems as if 305 somehow got merged into 767 although I never initiated a merge for 305? *sighs* Before I merged 813 & 767, I changed 305's LNAB from Osborne to Osburn. Even if 305 was a pending unmerged match, I don't see how that could affect a merge for 2 other profiles. I'm not sure if I need to contact admin@wikitree to see if they can figure out what happened. I have no clue how he could just disappear. I just hope it can be fixed so our John Osburn becomes Osburn-305. I'm mentioning this here to let you know, to keep track of it (so I don't forget & so it can somehow be corrected), and as a public record.
Btw, I went ahead and corrected the LNAB on as many of those Osborne/Osburn profiles as I could. I had to adopt their profiles in order to change the LNAB. I know you mentioned the spelling of their name was Osburn instead of Osborne. I'm not sure if I'll have time to work on all of them but I will certainly add to them in the future. If you're interested in managing some of the ones I've adopted, just let me know. I usually only adopt family profiles that are in my direct line of descent (Mother, Father, Child, Repeat...and so on) because it helps keep things simple and more manageable for me. There are times when I'll adopt siblings or Great Aunts & Uncles (Grandparent siblings) & additional ancestors but not often. I usually just leave them in case their descendants come along and wish to manage them.
I'm currently researching and working on my Mother's ancestor profiles so I've taken a short break from working on all of Dad's Virginia/West Virginia line for now. I don't like to bite off more than I can chew, so to speak ;-) When I have time in the future, I'll begin adding/updating siblings for all my Grandparents and adding any additional relationships that may be missing (for both my paternal & maternal line of ancestors). I'll let you know when I get ready to merge some of our duplicates :-). Hopefully we can make sure they're all eventually merged into the oldest/lowest number of the known duplicates that we can find. In the meantime, I have to figure out what happened to Osborne 305 and hopefully go about getting him back. Please holler if you need me.
I've contacted admin@wikitree to see what can be done about Osborne 305 & 293. They were apparently swallowed during the merge between our John's. I'll keep you posted with any info they provide me with. Thanks & Kind Regards,
I think I realize what happened to those older profiles -- we lost the lower numbered profiles as a result of LNAB changes made. They're all okay and still there, they just now cannot be merged to the lower number. I know you wanted their LNAB spelling changed from Osborne to Osburn. I see now that I should have waited to make those LNAB changes because this inadvertently creates a NEW profile. Not realizing that LNAB changes prior to and BEFORE a merge takes place can skew the direction of the final merge, some profiles are now sitting at higher numbers. In hindsight, the spelling of the last name should have waited until AFTER the merge took place. This happened to my Rebecca Osburn and several other profiles for Osborne's that I manage as a result. I've now lost her as an original Osborne-299. A hard-earned lesson for sure...we live and learn, yes? For future reference on merging profiles for which there are many duplicates, here are some important info and links below:
I've merged quite a few profiles and never had a problem until today. A lot of redirect issues can happen when you change last name spellings AND decide to merge all in one go. I hope this info helps you, too. All of our Osborne/Osburn profiles are all okay. Just some are no longer reflected as having the lowest number (i.e., 293, 305 or 299 for my Rebecca). It's frustrating but I'm waiting to hear back from wikitree Admin.

Osborne-193 and Osburn-323 appear to represent the same person because: Virtually same info. Names change over time. Look at census records ? They spelled names like they sounded.
