Biography

Son of Peter and Anna Elisabetha Kebber Oster.

"John Oster was born in 1780 and was a farmer and tanner in Pennsylvania. His oath of allegiance is dated February 16, 1802, at which time he was residing in Vaughan. He married Rachael Fisher and in 1826 they bought Lot 7, Concession 3 from her father, Jacob Fisher. (The family still have the old deed for the property dated 1805, when Jacob Fisher bought it from Jacob Keffer of Somerset County, Pennsylvania. This rare old document has a linen-like texture with the indented top common to the indentures of the day.) John Oster's sons, Michael and Samuel, carried on the farm, followed by Michael's sons, Thomas and Aaron, followed by Thomas' sons, Alan and Lorne, and then by Alan's son, William. Lot 7, Concession 3 was owned by the Oster family from 1826 to 1960, and William Oster continued to live there and farm after the property was sold, until 1968.[1]

I have added information to this profile as a project manager with the wikitree Upper Canada War of 1812 Project and linked it to the project pages and militia record sources. I am not related to this family.

Please email me, if you have questions about this war and other veterans and their families.

Some Fisher men also served in the same regiment and may have been relations of Rachel.
