John was born in 1811. He was the son of Matthew Oxford and Mary Sweezey. He passed away in 1883.
John Oxford was killed at Jones's Crossing (near the old site at Oxford Brook) on December 21, 1883, when his horse crossed the tracks in front of a train, with him seated in the sled which the horse was pulling. There was an inquest which was reported upon in detail in the "Union Advocate" of 2 January 1884.
