Biography

Silas Washington Pace was the son of Jonathan Pace and Susannah Allen Pace. He married Evaline Staton about 1839. In 1860 the family lived in Anderson County, S.C. In the 1880 census, he was listed in the census of Henderson County and the census of Polk County in North Carolina. The family lived in the area of the Mountain Page community where the two counties meet near today's Greenville Watershed and the state line. He died some time between 1880 and 1900.

A marked and/or decipherable grave stone has not been found. There are numerous and undecipherable grave stones within this cemetery. Based on land deeds, where the family lived, and the fact his wife's family's grave stones are within this cemetery, family genealogists and researchers state his grave site and his wife's grave site are within this cemetery.

Burial: Metcalf Family Cemetery Saluda Polk County North Carolina, USA

Silas was captured at Rappahannock on November 7, 1863 and was held at Point Lookout, Md. and exchanged March 17, 1864. He was a private in Co. I, 54th North Carolina Regiment.
