Biography

Nathaniel was born about 1812 in Greenville, Greene, NY.^[1][2] "Nathaniel moved with his parents to Lysander and then to Granby, and later to Cato, where he continued to reside until his death."^[2]

Nathaniel married 1st Emily Johnson about 1836, probably in Onondaga County, NY.

The children of Nathaniel and Emily:^[2][3]

1. Louisa, born c. 1837, married (Charles?) Showers, lived in Montezuma, NY
2. Amarilla (c. 1839 - 1919)^[4] married William Beals, lived in Lysander
3. George, born c. 1844
4. Lydia, born c. 1846
5. Mary, born c. 1848, married Blakeman, lived in Lysander
6. Wealthy, born c. 1850, married Blakeman, lived in Lysander
7. John W, born c. 1852
8. Hulbert, born c. 1855

Based on census records, they were living in Granby, Oswego Co., NY by 1840. They were still living in Granby at the time of the 1855 census.^[1]Emily appears on this census, but not on the 1860 census, therefore she presumably died between 1855 - 1860. The 1860 census shows Nathaniel living in Cato, Cayuga Co., NY and married 2nd to Martha (last name unknown).^[5]

By 1870, Martha had died and Nathaniel married 3rd Sarah Ann (last name unknown).^[6]

2. Ida May, born c. 1869

Nathaniel died 4 Feb 1874 in Cato, Cayuga, NY. "His will is dated Oct. 29, 1873, probated Mar. 30, 1874, in which he gave his age as 61 years and mentioned his wife Sarah Ann and two minor daughters, Sarah Samantha and Ida May. The petition shows the heirs in order as given herein, and the Executor was Samuel N. Brown of Ira, N.Y. (Vol. W. p. 305, Cayuga Co.)."^[2][7]
