Obituary. The Port Macquarie News and Hastings River Advocate, Sat 5 Aug 1905[6]
It is our painful duty this week to chronicle the death of Mr. Henry Harding Parker, which occurred at his residence, east Port Macquarie, on Saturday night last, after a few weeks' illness. The deceased gentleman was a son of one of the early pioneers of the district, and was born on the Hastings river 72 years ago, his mother being a daughter of the Rev. John Cross, so well known as being the first rector of St Thomas's Church, which still stands as a monument to tbe good old gentleman's name.
When Mr. Parker reached manhood he married the eldest daughter of the late Dr. Mclntyre, then the Government medical officer for the district. For many years the deceased followed farming and other occupations in various parts of the district, and eventually came to Port Macquarie, where he has resided for many years. Genial, kindly, and upright in his disposition, and with a never-failing tendency to do good to his fellow, Mr. Parker was a thorough churchman, and for years did service as lay-reader in St. Thomas's.
He leaves a widow, and large family, besides a large circle of relatives and friends, all of whom have our deepest sympathy in their sad bereavement. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, when a large number of persons followed the remains to their last resting place, the Rev. H. C. Barnes officiating at the grave.
