Biography

Joshua Parker was born at the Cortlandt Manor, Westchester, NY. This is as far back as Parker family members, can trace this Parker Ancestry with any accuracy. His birth place “Cortlandt Manor, NY” came from the entry for him in the municipal ledger of deaths in NYC found at the NYC Municipal Archives in Lower Manhattan in the early 1990’s.

The information for the ledger entry was most likely made by his widow, Sarah (Rogers) Parker. Although the place of his birth is slightly misspelled “Courtland Manor S.NY” (State of New York), it is however, unambiguous and clearly stands for Cortlandt Manor.

This Manor is about twenty miles north of New York City. Cortlandt Manor was formed in 1697 and encompassed 86,123 acres. It stretched from the Hudson River all the way East to the Connecticut Border. Exactly where in the Manor this Parker family was located isn’t known.

Joshua Parker was listed in several early NYC-City Directories as a “Jr.” therefore it is suspected that his father was also a Joshua.

He married Sarah Rogers on 30 Jun 1802 in NYC, NY.

He died on 27 Sep 1819 in NYC, NY.

DNA

Thru Y- DNA analysis it was proven that this Parker family is closely related to a John Parker born 1725 in Northern Ireland, and dying in Grayson Co., VA in 1793. The exact connection to this John Parker Family isn't known.

Y-DNA analysis also eliminated the Parkers Family coming from Massachusetts and descending from an Abraham Parker that married Rose Whitlock. Bob 2014

You are right in linking the Grayson County VA Parker's to ours as DNA evidence shows there is a relation, but the Joshua Parker of Grayson county was born in 1790 and moved to Texas with Stephen Austin. He is well documented and had an amazing life.

The other Joshua Parker, father of Pamelia, Margaret, Aaron, Moses, and Joshua, (of whom I am a direct descendant), Caleb, and Benjamin was born at Cortlandt Manor, Westchester County, NY in 1778. He married Sarah Rogers in NYC in July 1802. His son, Joshua is my 3rd great-grandpa born in NYC 1809, and he joined the LDS church in 1838, and made his way to SLC via Nauvoo, married Drusilla Hartley in Nauvoo and they had 13 children.
