Biography

THANKFUL PARRIS SOUTHWICK
THANKFUL PARRIS was born on 12 September 1773, at Williamstown, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of GRACE MOTT and ELKANAH PARRIS
On 22 February 1801, at Danby, Rutland County, Vermont, she married ISSAC SOUTHWICK born on 12 December 1767, at Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts. He was the son of PATIENCE HANDY and LAWRENCE SOUTHWICK Jr. [1]
The following biography is dedicated to Thankful's husband, Isaac Southwick. Unfortunately, as is true in many early genealogies women were usually only identified as the "wife of.." and/or "mother of.." This is one such instance.
The following biography is from:

Printed by McClean & Robbins—

SOUTHWICK, ISAAC, another brother, was early here. He married THANKFUL, daughter of Elkanah Parris, and was during his younger days, a blacksmith by trade. He was connected in this business for a number of years, with David Bartlett, and in the manufacture of edge tools. He subsequently settled near the residence of William Herrick, where he kept a store for several years. He next settled on the farm owned by Capt. A. N. Colvin, where he also carried on the mercantile business, and where he lived until his death in 1823, aged 68; his wife died in 1830, aged 65.
They had five children:
TRUMAN SOUTHWICK, born 1802, died young
SYLVIA (SOUTHWICK) SMITH, born 1805
EDNA SOUTHWICK, born 1808 died young;
ISAAC SOUTHWICK, Jr., born 1809 and
ARTHUR SOUTHWICK born 1817, also died young.
Isaac Southwick Jr. married Elizabeth, daughter of Dr. Harris Otis, and was in the mercantile business with his father. He died in Starksboro, Vt., Oct. 11th, 1832, leaving two sons, Isaac M. b. 1829, and Homer H. b. 1831. Isaac M. has been twice married; first to Rebecca Williams, who died in 1867, and next to Lizzie Wardwell. He is now in the mercantile business and lives in Boston, having also been a merchant in Rutland for a number of years. His children are, Nelson, Homer and Frankie. Homer H. married Catherine Germond of Middletown, where he resides. ::: He is also in the mercantile business, and is one of the prominent citizens of that town, having been a Representative to the legislature for two years. He was a member of Co. B. 14th Regt. Vt. Vols., and occupied the position of Sergeant.

Note:
The Danby History writes of Isaac Southwick in Danby Vt and refers to his brothers Daniel and Josiah. The story on page 263 under Josiah tells "He is a son of Lawrence Southwick, a native of Salem, Mass., and was one of a family of twenty children, he being the nineteenth child." It also tells of a relation to Benjamin Franklin, but based on this book, it would seem this Isaac Southwick (1767-1848), is the son of Lawrence, but the dates of 1755-1823 are used related to that entry for Issac Southwick. Either the entries under the son of Lawrence are an error or there was another Isaac Southwick and we are looking at two different persons.
Sequel - Based on Vital records found in VT and MA, it would appear the Danby History is incorrect concerning Isaac Southwick's date of death (1823) and age (68) at the time.
THANKFUL SOUTHWICK died on 30 July 1848, at Danby, Rutland, Vermont. She is buried in Quaker Cemetery, Danby, Rutland County, Vermont.[2]
