Biography

Anne Patson was one of the founding members of New Carlisle/Paspébiac, she was married to Clement Holmes Sr. I believe her origin is in St Brelade parish on the Island of Jersey for the following reasons. In their marriage record Clement is referred to as an "étranger" but not Anne who is from St Brelade. The name Patson is an old Jersey name. ^[1] The designation for immigrants in Jersey in the 1800's was 'étranger' which translates literally to foreigner. ^[2] There is an Anne Patson baptized in St Brelade November 4th 1762 which fits time wise and there is no burial record in Jersey for Anne Patson born 1762.

Anne daughter of Daniel Patson and Elizabeth Le Brocq was presented by Charles Le Petevin dit Le Roux and Anne Le Petevin dite Le Roux and baptized the 14th of November 1762. ^{[3] [4]}

Clement Holm immigrant living in St Brelade and Anne Patson of St Brelade parish were married the 21st of December 1786. ^[5]

The burial record for Anne Patson reads: "Buried at Paspébiac on the tenth day of July 1834 having departed this life on the ninth of same month and year Ann Patson of Cox Township relict of Clement Holmes a native of Sweden...". I believe the common interpretation was that Ann was a native of Sweden but these old records always are about the man. Therefore the person referred to as being born in Sweden was not Ann but Clement. "...Aged about 60 years..." Only one signature: Clement Holms (likely her son). ^[6] 1825 Census of Lower Canada lists the household of Clement Holmes in Paspébiac with one married woman of more than 45 years of age. ^[7]
