John was born in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on September 24, 1672,[1] the son of Nathaniel and Rebeccah/Rebecca Patten/Pattin; it is indicated that he was a twin.[2][3]
He married, on March 13, 1699/1700, Margaret Luxford, in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts;[4] she was the daughter of Reuben Luxford and was born July 27, 1673. They are said to have resided on the south side of Brattle Street, between Ash and Sparks Streets. His wife was appointed administrator of his estate May 8, 1717. She died Feb. 19, 1718.[1]
