Biography
Isabella ("Bella"), daughter of Duncan and Janette Patterson, was born in 1862 in Scotland. She came to Ontario by 1875. She married Charles Edward Peterson in 1877 in Bath, Lennox County, Ontario, and they first lived in Adolphustown, Lennox County. In 1891 they were in Hallowell Township, Prince Edward County. In 1901 they were again in Adolphustown. In 1904 they moved to New York state and in 1905, 1910, 1915, and 1930 were in Pamelia or nearby Watertown, Jefferson County, with all five of their children. Edward died there in 1938.
Footnotes
Five census records and the marriage register have Isabella born 1857/58 and one has her born 1856/57. The 1901 census, however, gives her birthday as 7 Feb 1862.
A secondary source has Isabella coming to Ontario in 1875. But the 1871 census of South Fredericksburgh has an Isabella Patterson, 14, with Barbara Robertson, 67, and two Robertson sons.
It's likely that she died before 1935, since she's not found in the Social Security Death Index (1935- ) nor a 1940 New York census. On the other hand she is not listed for the cemetery in which her husband was buried in 1938.
