James Patterson, son of Hugh and Gilla (Moss) Patterson, was born about 1828 in North Carolina, USA.
He married Elizabeth Laughridge on 4 Dec. 1845 at Hall County, Georgia.[1]
He was a laborer when he and Elizabeth appeared on the census of 14 Sep. 1850, at Cass County, Georgia, his brother John was living with them.[2]
James may have deserted Elizabeth or possibly died, and Elizabeth married John Naler about 1854.
On 22 March 1902, in McLennan County, Texas, Josiah M. Patterson completed an affidavit stating that James and John were his brothers and that he had not heard of them for over 30 years and believed them to be "long since dead".[3]
