Biography

August 24, 1904 John Paver was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, Nov. 13, 1819, when ten years of age he came with his parents to Union County. March 19, 1846, he was joined in marriage with Miss Maria Poling. Fifteen children were born to them, nine lived to maturity, viz Sarah A., George, James, Ira, Cynthia, Martha J., Louvina, Maria (deceased), Alfred (deceased), Alice and John. There were 71 grand-children of which 37 are living, also 15 great grandchildren, 9 still survive. November 1879, Mr. Paver met with a great loss in the death of his wife, however, this severe stroke was atoned for as much as possible in Louvina remaining at home all these years faithfully attending to home duties and, as fully as another could, filled the place of mother and help meet to the family and friend to those visiting at their home. Mr. Paver by his industry and economy left much of this world to his children, and what is still better, by honest dealing and remembrance of the poor, a name that is more valuable than silver and gold. He was at different times honored with positions of trust, all which he filled to the satisfaction of his constituents and honor to himself. He has for years been a great sufferer but bore it all uncomplainingly until August 6, 1904, at the old home in Allen township. After all had been done by loving children, faithful nurse and best medical skill, at 9 o'clock about his usual hour to retire, this pioneer and indulgent father at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 23 days, entered that sleep that knows no awakening until the resurrection morn. Funeral services were held at his late home in charge of Mr. H. W. Morey of Marysville, Ohio. The discourse was delivered by the writer to a large gathering of friends and neighbors. The remains were then laid to rest in that beautiful city of the dead, Oakdale.

Son of Johh Paver (1777-1854) and Mary Elizabeth (Wagner) Paver (1778-1851)
