George was born in 1805. He is the son of William Payne and his wife Elizabeth. He was christened on 5 May 1805 in Chewton Mendip, Somerset, England.[1]
George Pain married Lucy Edwards by banns on 18 Feb 1828 in Chewton Mendip, Somerset, England.[2] The witnesses were William Edwards, John Church, and William Ford.[3]
Their children were christened in Chewton Mendip, Somerset but for most only Lucy’s name was on the records:
- 24 Oct 1830 Ellen (parents recorded George & Lucy)[4]
- 10 Jan 1835 John[5] was possibly christened twice, the second being 1 Mar 1837[6] All the records have his birth about 1835.

Research Notes
George’s brother John married Lucy’s sister Mary on the same day as George and Lucy were married[10], and they were having children christened in Chewton Mendip at the same time. George is not with the family in the census records. Nothing is known about what happened to him yet.
