Biography

Thelma (Payne) Gray is a part of US Black heritage.

Thelma was born in 1905. She was the daughter of William Payne and Bessie Austin. ^[1] In 1910 she was living with her parents and siblings in Chicago, Illinois.^[2]

Thelma married Rodger Powell; in 1940 they were living with her widowed mother and sisters in Chicago where Thelma was a teacher.^[3] By 1950 Thelma was the Principal of an elementary school. She was widowed and living with her mother in Chicago.^[4]

She passed away in 1987 in Los Angeles County, California. She was buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, California.
