2. James Payne was born at Godalming 23 May 1768. He was a son of Thomas Payne of Godalming and Guildford by his wife Hannah Hunt.
3. James Payne was living at Dover from the date of his marriage until 1799. He had been a member of Peel Monthly Meeting, moving from there to Dover before his wedding. His certificate of removal was sent to Canterbury Monthly Meeting, dated 6 June 1792. From1801 until his death in1806 he lived at West Square, Southwark. He died 27 January 1806, aged thirty-seven years.
