Biography

Theophilus Arthur Pearce was born in 1750 in North Carolina, son of Arthur Pearce (1723–1792) and Mary Everette (1723–1815).

Theophilus married Susannah Sowell (born in 1782 in Bertie, North Carolina; daughter of James William Sowell and Sarah (Baker) Sowell). Their children were:

  • Mary Pearce Shows (1793–1869)
  • John Pearce (1795 – unknown)
  • Patsy Pearce Brooks (1798 – unknown)
  • Tamar Pierce (1799–~1854)
  • Alexander Pearce (1801 – unknow)
  • Theophilus Pearce (1804–185)
  • Elias Pearce (1807–1863)

Theophilus was ned in the North Carolina Revolutionary Pary voucers on 4 February 1781 in Johnston, North Carolina;[1] on 3 June 1782 in Newbern, Johnston, North Carolina; [2]


and on 21 October 1782 in Johnsont, North Carolina, [3] on 9 January, 1795 in Sumner, North Carolina[4]

In the 1784-1787 census Thophilus was in Johnston.[5]

In the 1790 census Theophilus was in Johnston, North Carolina, United States. 1 White Male 16 and over 1 White Males 15 and under 3 White females 1 slave [6]

Theophilus was in a military record in 1812-1815 in United States, served under Brig. Maj. Inspr. 10 Brigade (Steddiford's) New York.[7]

Theophilous's father's will passed probate on 2 October 1792 in Johnston, North Carolina, United States.[8]

Theophalus Pearce lived in Twiggs, Georgia, in the Captain Streetman distirct in 1826 and was named in the Georgia, U.S., Property Tax Digests, 1793-1892.[9] Theophilus died in 1827 in Twigg, Georgia, United States, aged 76.

September 27, 1827 -Essex Register: DIED. In Twiggs county, Geo. 7th ult.Rev. Theophilus Pierce, aged about 60 years, an exemplary christian, and preacher of the Baptist denomination.

September 11, 1827 - Macon Telegraph: Notice. All persons having demands against the estate of Theophilus Pearce, late of Twiggs county, deceased, are requested to bring then in properly attested, and those indebted to said estate are requested to make immediate payment. Alexander Nelson, Executor
