Biography

This profile is part of the Hendy Name Study.

Mary Ann Pearse was born Jan-Mar 1845 in Ashburton, Newton Abbot, Devon. [1] She grew up on her parents' farm in Ashburton where she went to school. [2] By 1861 the family had moved to a farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon. [3]

Mary married William Hendy Oct-Dec 1863 in Totness, Devon, [4] and by 1871 they were living in Princetown, Devon and William was working as an Assistant Warder at Dartmoor Prison. [5]

By 1881 William had received a promotion and the family had moved to Rochester, Kent. [6] They were still there in 1891. [7]

By 1901 they had moved back to Devon and were living on a farm in Loddiswell. [8]

In 1911 there were living at Carsewell Farm, Holbeton. [9]

Mary died Jan -Mar 1925 in Plympton St Mary, Devon. [10]
