Robert was born about 1816 to Robert Penman and Christian Muir and baptised 13 Oct 1816 in Cockpen, Midlothian. [1]
He married Helen Nielson on the 13th Jan 1837 in Newbattle. [2]
Robert and family immigrated to the USA from the 5th to 25th May 1863 on the Monarch of the Sea, landing in New York. With Robert, a 46 year old miner, were his wife Ellen 50, and his children: Joseph 18, Christina 15, Robert 12, and William 7. [3] It appears James and Catherine stayed in Scotland.
