Early Life

Alfred Charles Pepperell was born on May 28, 1902[1][2] in Plymouth, Devon, England, son of Philip John Pepperell, a Coal Porter, and Rebecca Freeman. The birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of Plymouth[3]. He was baptised on June 11, 1902 in Charles the Martyr, Plymouth, Devon, England.[1]

In the 1911 England Census, enumerated April 2, Alfred was the son of Phillip John Pepperell living at 24 Bishop's Place Plymouth, Devon, England.[4] The household was enumerated as head Phillip John Pepperell (41) Licensed Victuallers Manager, daughter Clara Susannah Pepperell (18) Dressmaker, daughter Lilian Victoria Pepperell (13), son Alfred Charles Pepperell (8), son Roy Wilfred Pepperell (3), niece Rosetta Bardell Pepperell (18) Housekeeper, and nephew Thomas William Bardell Pepperell (25) Skilled Labourer.

In the 1921 England Census, enumerated June 19, Alfred was Building & Repairing Ships in H M Dockyard Devonport, Plymouth. He was the single son of Phillip John Pepperell living at 24 Bishops Place, Plymouth, Devon, England.[5] The household was enumerated as head Phillip John Pepperell (55) Gen. Lab. at HM Dockyard Devonport, daughter Clara S F Pepperell (28) Dressmaker, daughter Lillian Victoria Pepperell (23) Home Duties, son Alfred Charles Pepperell (19) Building & Repairing Ships at HM Dockyard Devonport, son Roy Wilfred Pepperell (13) at School, and daughter Blanche Annie Pepperell (11) at School.

Family

Alfred married Emily Whiddon on July 24, 1926 in Emma Place Independent Congregational Chapel, East Stonehouse, Devon, England.[6][7] They had one child:

In the 1939 England Register, enumerated September 29, Alfred was the married head of household at 33 Beale Street, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England.[8] The household was enumerated as Alfred C Pepperell (37) Admiralty Smith Overseer, Emily Pepperell (35) Unpaid Domestic Duties, and Closed Record.

Death

Alfred's death (84) on August 5, 1986[9] was registered in August 1986 in the Bath district.[2] He was cremated on August 13, 1986 in Haycombe Crematorium, Whiteway, Bath, Somerset, England and his ashes were interred in Shrubbery No. 14.[9]
