Biography

REBECCA PERHAM, b. at Dunstable, 23 Feb 1760 daughter of Lemuel Perham and Mary Butterfield;[1][2] d. at Farmington, ME by 1806; m. at Dunstable, MA, 14 Mar 1782,[3] ELIPHALET BAILEY, b. at Nottingham, NH, 7 Sep 1756 son of Timothy and Sarah (French) Bailey; Eliphalet d. at Farmington, May 1836. Eliphalet married second Mary Smith on 3 November 1806.

Rebecca and Eliphalet started their family in Dunstable. They made a perilous journey from Dunstable to Farmington (current day Maine) in the Spring of 1788, their son William dying along the way. They settled on part of lot number 26 in the Sandy River township. Eliphalet was deacon of the Baptist church in Farmington.[4]

In 1800, the family of Eliphalet was nine persons at Farmington: one male 26 to 44, one female 26 to 44, two males under 10, one male 10 to 15, one male 16 to 25, two females under 10, and one female 10 to 15.[5]

Children

Rebecca Perham and Eliphalet Bailey were parents of eight children.

John m. 2nd 20 Apr 1847, BETSEY TURNER (widow of James B. Marvel), b. 1790 daughter of Reuben and Lucy (Everett) Turner; Betsey d. at Farmington, 4 Mar 1864.

ii WILLIAM BAILEY, b. at Dunstable, 17 Nov 1785; d. 29 Mar 1788.

iii POLLY BAILEY, b. at Farmington, 7 May 1788; d. at Henry County, OH, about 1855;[6] m. at Farmington, 19 Mar 1807, SIMON RUSSELL, b. at Waterboro, ME, about 1785 son of Joseph and Aphia (Moody) Russell; Simon d. at Lake County, OH, about 1848.[7]

iv JAMES BAILEY, b. at Farmington, 12 Mar 1790; d. at Wilton, ME, 16 Apr 1865; m. at Wilton, 4 Apr 1820, his first cousin, REBECCA FLETCHER, b. at Westford, MA, 10 Jul 1789 daughter of Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Perham) Fletcher; Rebecca d. at Farmington, ME, 11 Apr 1879.

v ISAAC BAILEY, b. at Farmington, 20 Feb 1792; d. at Farmington, 17 Feb 1858. Isaac did not marry.

vi WILLIAM BAILEY, b. at Farmington, 1 Dec 1795; d. at Dysart, IA, 6 Apr 1882; m. at New Portland, ME, 26 Jan 1847, MARY CHURCHILL (widow of Benaiah P. Wethern), b. at New Portland, Dec 1819 daughter of William and Mary (Hutchins) Churchill; Mary d. at Dysart, 28 Jan 1910.[8]

viii ASA BAILEY, b. 23 Jul 1800; d. after 1870 when living at Farmington;[9] m. 16 Aug 1821, his first cousin, BETSEY BAILEY, b. at Farmington, 13 Dec 1798 daughter of Oliver and Elizabeth (Butterfield) Bailey; Betsey d. at Farmington, 20 Apr 1844.
