Biography

Mr. Amos Perley was a surveyor of highways, overseer of the poor, constable, selectman, and for many years clerk of the First Parish of Boxford, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1]

Amos Perley was born on 3 May 1699, in Topsfield, Essex County, in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of Thomas Perley and Abigail Towne Peabody. [2]

Death

March 1748. [3]

Will: It was dated 14 January 1748 and proved 11 April 1748. The will mentions his wife, Margaret, son Amos. [4]

Marriage

Margery Cogswell (sometimes called Margaret), 1 March 1722, Boxford, Essex County, Massachusetts. [5]

Children:

  • Stephen Perley (1725-1727) [6]
  • Amos Perley (1727-1750) [7]
  • Abigail Perley (1729-1729) [8]
  • Hannah Perley (1731-1810) [9]
  • Abigail Perley (1732-1807) [10]
  • Nathaniel Ward Perley (1734-1810) [11]
  • Enoch Perley (1737-1737) [12]
  • Eunice Perley (1739-1822) [13]
  • Sarah Perley (1741-1741) [14]

There seems to be no record of Amos Perley's death in Boxford, but he must have died prior to 11 Apr 1748, when his estate entered probate. [15] Thus, a date of death in late March of 1748 would be logical.
