Biography

On October 11, 1849, Benjamin Wilhoit married Hannah Personett, of Hamilton Co., OH, who was born October 15, 1831, a daughter of Joseph, of Hamilton Co., OH, and Rebecca Personett, of Pennsylvania, who came to Henry Co., IN in 1838. They were the parents of eight children: Elwood (died at 9 months); Harriet; Elizabeth; Nancy Jane; Rebecca; Reuben; Alice Lavinia "Allie" (? Williams); and Phebe Laura. After their marriage, they settled on a heavily timbered tract of land, which Benjamin cleared, improved and it became one of the finest farms in the township. He had been industrious, and was able to give up the heavier work to younger hands, so he could enjoy the fruits of his labors. In politics, Benjamin was a Republican, first voting for Franklin Pierce. He and his wife were members of the Christian Church.
